(Sackville) - In ESHL action last night it was the Sackville Bud Light Combines trying to wrap up there best of 5 series with the Shediac Capitals. The Capitals trying to avoid the sweep started strong as Andre Richard picked up on a Combine mistake to walk in all alone on Combines goalie Mike Charlton and made no mistake firing home a shorthand marker for the early 1-0 lead. The Combines would eventually tie the game half way through the first as 'bines Nathan Phinney fired home a rebound from Brad Steeves to notch things at one. The Second period had both goalies making key saves to keep the game close but it was Marshall MacDonald of the 'bines firing home the lone goal of the period for the 2-1 lead. Malcolm Estabrooks finished off a nice passing play from Trever Peterson and Joel Stronge to gain the two goal lead half way through the third. Facing elimination the Capitals pressured the 'bines late in the third with Chris Leblanc of the Capitals picking up a rebound to bring the game within one with only 3 minutes left to play. With less then 2 minutes left in the game, the 'bines found themselves in penalty trouble and with the powerplay late in the third the Capitals made no mistake as Albert Cormier Fired home a shot from the slot to the tie the game with just over a minute left to send the game in overtime. In overtime it was the Capitals who found themselves in trouble as the 'bines started the period on the powerplay. On the powerplay it was team leading scorer Nick Laplante leading the charge as he picked up a loose puck behind the net and managed to bet a sprawled goalie to win the game and the series for the 'bines. Mike Charlton for the 'bines picked up the win as Michel Cormier suffered the loss. The Combines advance to the semi-finals and will face the lead leading Richibucto Rum Runners with game one starting Saturday Feb 27 in Cocagne.
Remi Cormier and the entire Management team of the Shediac Capitals are to praised for there great effort for helping with the expansion of the ESHL newest team.
