The Sackville "Bud Lite" Combines will look to close out their best of 5 playoff series vs. the Shediac Capitals, as they play Game 3 Wednesday in Sackville at the T.V.M.C.C., 8:45 start time.
In the first game of the ESHL quarter finals it was the Combines striking first with the 7-5 win over the visiting Caps. Scoring for Combines were Nick Laplante with a hat trick, Marshall MacDonald with a pair, while Matt Bowes & Brad Steeves added singles. Mike Charlton recorded the victory between the pipes.
Game 2 in Shediac was a very evenly fought game, as both teams traded goals back and forth, only to have a tied result after both the first (1 - 1) and second periods (2 - 2) . The 3rd period saw the Combines pull ahead and not look back, as with a little over 4 minutes into the period, Nicolas Laplante broke passed the Capitals defense and roofed a perfectly placed shot top shelf over the Capitals goalie glove hand to give the Combines the go-ahead goal. And with less than a minute to go, Nathan Phinney sealed the deal with an empty net goal, giving the Combines both a 4 - 2 victory and a 2 - 0 series lead. Also adding singles were Bowes & Derek Rushton, while Charlton backstopped his 2nd win in as many nights.
If necessary, game 4 will be played Friday in Shediac, 9:00 p.m. start time, game 5 if necessary is TBD. The winner of the series will take on first place Richibucto Rum Runners in the E.S.H.L. best of 7semi-finals.
