Senior Hockey Hits the Ice once again......

Share

(Sackville) - "Senior hockey is back with the formation of the North East Senior Hockey League. In it's inaugural season, the NESHL will consist of six teams divided into two divisions. Making part of the North Division will be Lamèque, Miramichi and Tracadie. Bouctouche, Cap-Pelé and Memramcook will play in the East Division. The 2011 - 2012 season will kick off on Friday, November 4th. The final schedule will be posted on our new website www.neshl.ca shortly. There will be a draft of players wishing to play in the NESHL but residing outside of an existing team's territory. There will be two zones where players living in these will be eligible to be drafted. For the North Division the zone will be the Greater Bathurst area going up to Campbellton. For those players living in the Moncton, Lewisville, Riverview up to and including Sussex, they will need to register for the East Division draft. They will just need to go on our website to the Draft section and register. Deadline for the draft will be October 15th. Anyone wanting to contact the NESHL for any reasons may do so by writing to info@neshl.ca."

Looking back to go Forward

(ESHL) - The Eastern Senior Hockey League is looking for a fresh start in 2011-12 season. With a one year break from hockey, the league and senior hockey in New Brunswick has been busy trying to find solutions to paying players and gaining parity back in the league. The Eastern Senior League will be proposing new rules to help bring back and hopefully sustaining senior hockey with the first being only local players allowed to play for each team. Every team will have a district or area in which to choose from with zero imports allowed. Players must reside in there area to be eligable. The league feels this may reduce the talent but overall allow for better support and parity. The league will also propose that no trades be allowed and that players who are cut from other teams will be entered in a draft which they have the choice to play for the team which drafted them or not play at all. The league hopes to have four to five teams back for the next season with Sackville, Memramcook, Cappele, Bouctouche and Shediac as possible participants. Teams look to meet this weekend to discuss the proposed rule changes and the opportunity of playing in the 2011-12 season.

Senior hockey Cools Off?

Share

(Sackville) - It looks like the ESHL has decided to take a year off from Senior hockey in Eastern New Brunswick. Unable to get comments or updates from league officials, it seems that teams have decided to cool things off. Unable to get commitments from the majority of the teams to return as the possible cause for the one year leave. The league will look to start things back up in 2011-12. Please post any comments on our chat page regarding this decision.
