ESHL Returning to Shediac | Share | (ESHL) - The Eastern Senior Hockey League (ESHL) meeting held in Moncton on Monday March 25/09 finished with hopes of future success with some important changes to the league and for the Sackville Combines. The first issue on the board’s agenda was to change the current distribution of league profits. The league will no longer take care of the team/league bills and revenue. Each team will be responsible to look after there own bills as well as collect and spend there revenue as they see fit. This was a much needed change as the Combines were one of the few teams which made a profit in the last few years at the gate but had to cover the expenses of other teams in the league as per there revenue sharing setup. Team player/manager Bryan MacLean states the decision will “help relieve the team of rising financial costs of running a senior hockey team, and hopefully help with creating better parity in the league”. In other motions tabled and passed, was the expansion and addition of the Shediac Capitals to the league. The executive also discussed two applications from the neighbouring South Shore League, as the provincial champions Tracadie-Sheila and the Miramichi have both expressed interest in playing in the ESHL. The league is also in discussions with Petitcodiac and Sussex as possible expansion in the upcoming 2009-10 season. With the expansion the Civic Center will be hosting at least one new team in the Shediac Capitals as the league moves to at least 6 teams in the upcoming season. Decisions on the other possible teams and communities will be made at the next general meeting held in June. The final issued resolved at the league meeting had the teams voting unanimous to implement the two fight rule for the new season. Players and teams feel that in the past few years there has been more stick work in the game, and with the rule change hope it will allow them to police themselves on the ice. Combines hope the changes will allow the team and the league to grow and succeed in the upcoming season. Posted - May-26-2009 10:50 AM
